mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego live just across from jackson square. jackson square is kind of a mecca for artists to come out and do their oil paintings. we have also seen some clowns late last night who were doing balloons for the kids walking around the streets. i have to tell you, new orleans knows how to put on a good party. and not only are they putting on a party for everyone coming out for super bowl xlvii, but they're putting -- they are right in the middle of mardi gras season so they are out there along the parade route as the floats go by. there's beads flying from everywhere, flying from the floats from the balconies in the french quarter. new orleans nearly 300 years old. there is history here. we have been talking to people about what they expect from everyone coming into town. of course, the city is going to bring in money with all of these out-of-towners but if you think the super bowl is a big party with 150 to 200,000 people coming into the city, mardi gras, they expect way more than that for mardi gras. and, of course,

morning. >> reporter: good morning, michelle. hope you're having fun in new orleans. here in san francisco buildings all over the city are lit up in red and gold but the city also expected to take in some green this super bowl. even though the host city makes the big bucks an estimated $435 million, san francisco should get a boost. the people who live and work here could see an additional $120 a year in personal income. there are a few reasons for that. according to economists, winning brings confidence and pumped up fans are big spenders. also the city has been put on a national stage. we are getting a lot of exposure right now and a lot of press. that also brings confidence. and finally, food and merchandise. across the country fans are expected to spend $11 billion on super bowl-related purchases including about 8 million pounds of tortilla chips, one and a quarter billion chicken wings if you can believe that, 51 million cases of beer and countless t-shirts and other clothing. >> in general, should be san francisco a more exuberant optim
in the national day of service, which pays tribute to martin luther king jr. later, michelle obama and jill biden host a concert for american military families and their children. so as president obama prepares to kick off his second term, we wanted to know how the american people think that he's doing as he closes out the fist one. cnn political editor paul steinhauser is here in washington with me this morning. good morning to you. so thumbs or thumbs down. how do they think he's doing? >> we have some polls, a lot of polls. a lot of polls have skasked, ise doing a good job? do you approve or not approve? our cnn poll of polls say 53% say, yes, they approve of the job the president is doing in office, 42% disapprove. but what about the specific issues, not overall. take a look at this from orc, look at the numbers on the left, randi. these are where he's doing very well on the issues, terrorism, environment, foreign affairs, immigration, but those are not so important to americans. the economy, he's at 48%. what's the second most important? the deficit, we know that's been in the news lately, 4

with more. good morning from new orleans. cate. >> reporter: good morning to you, michelle. there is that saying, we all heard it, if it's too good to be true, chances are, it is. a hayward couple learned it the hard way. this morning a hayward couple is out almost $6,000 because of a super bowl ticket scam. they found an ad on craigslist for four tickets. they wired the seller in baltimore $5,900. then they got this, take a look. a picture of quarterback colin kaepernick and joe flacco with a message underneath that read, enjoy the game, go ravens, lol. cbs 5 spoke with the victims. they did not want to go on camera but tell us they have not gone to the police. now, in new orleans, scam artists there are capitalizing on unknowing tourists. this is a tactic that's a growing concern within the french quarter. the artists post weekend rentals using fake addresses or homes not up for rent. the victims pay up front and by the time they get to where they think they are staying, its too late. >> she was here for my b & b rental and she didn't
